Making the decision to go to treatment for substance abuse can be a positive move for an addict. But sometimes the concept of what “rehab” is all about can be confusing, since many programs are like a revolving door.

Drug and Alcohol RehabsSo, maybe you are unclear what an effective substance abuse rehabilitation program like a Christian addiction treatment center in Georgia is really like? There are many fallacies about substance abuse rehabs in Jackson, GA and other Georgia locations.

The First Myth of Addiction Treatment – Rehabs for Substance Abuse are “One Size Fits All”

Although all rehabs in Georgia have a common set of treatments, each rehab is unique. Results can be highly affected mostly by the length of stay in the program. Short-term rehabs in  Georgia rarely work. The better rehabs will last several months, not a few days, since it takes that long to reteach them truth, positive thinking and responsibility for a successful future.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

Each client has a different experience and history with drugs and alcohol. What triggered the initial use and subsequent addiction can differ for each individual. So, unraveling it often takes different approaches and some initial counseling.

Addictions are often initially caused by a hurt or a void in the person’s life, so those must be dealt with simultaneously or the addiction cannot be solved. Often called “dual-diagnosis” treatment, this work on the heart and soul is essential, but not provided in all rehabs.

Addiction Treatment Myth #2 – Those With Chemical Dependencies in Georgia Have the Ability to Quit their Addiction Without Help

An addiction is affected by an area of of the brain called the Mesolimbic Dopamine System. It is not something that a person can consciously manage. So, it is impossible for an addict to connect the logic of unhealthy and negative behavior to their chemical dependency. Whether or not the addict opened the door to the addiction in the first place is irrelevant to their ability to stop it. Once the addiction is started, the addict no longer has control to stop the addiction.

Addiction Treatment Myth #3 – An Drug Abuser in Georgia Will Reject Going to a Rehab Until they Have Reached “Rock Bottom”

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

It is true that a vast majority of addicts must hit “rock bottom” due to their chemical dependency, before they will enter a drug and alcohol rehab, in a lucid moment of self-preservation. But all addicts are motivated differently and have different levels of their chemical dependency. For that reason, some may be convinced to get help by loved ones, while others may need to nearly die before they’ll seek help. Common reasons people seek help include, but are not limited to, family pressure, legal issues, illness or near-death experiences, or finances. Unfortunately, many choose to wait until they’ve destroyed all other option, but this does not describe all addicts or alcoholics, so don’t wait!

If you, or someone you love in Georgia is involved in a harmful chemical dependency to drugs or alcohol, it is best to seek addiction treatment help as soon as possible. The more time goes on, the harder it will be to reverse it. In contacting a rehab center, you can get quick answers to any questions.
